Life Is Like A Mirror

Life,
Oh so short some say.
Yet the days drag on,
Making that a lie.
A lie worth dwelling in.
Clouded feelings are the only thing keeping this world from crashing down.
The optimistic, who think there’s still good under all this darkness.
Life is like a mirror. Smile at it and it smiles back at you.
Once words of a wise man,
Now just a memory of those who wish to pretend,
Pretend that it will all change,
Change for the better.
What a silly dream,
With silly people.
This world will crash and burn.
Can’t you see that?
Why try and pretend?
Words of doubt,
engraved in your mind.
Maybe, maybe this will help you see?
If there are so many doubters,
So many toeing the line,
How will we ever expect to change this world?
Life is like a mirror. Smile at it and it smiles back at you.
Words of a wise man,
Why not follow them?
What happens if you were to smile at a stranger?
Scoffers?
Teasing?
Bullying?
Would that stop if you didn’t smile?
No.
Why not have some joy, even if you’re being beaten to death.
Your heart may ache still,
Death still seeming so pleasant over this world,
But why let them win?
Why give them the pleasure they want to have?
Life is like a mirror. Smile at it and it smiles back at you.
Let’s take a chance.
I’ll smile,
Will you?

About the Author:My name is Katie Dodd I’m 16 years old, and live in Clifton, Tennessee. My hobbies are reading, writing, walking, occasionally riding horses, and a lot of other activities. My passions are animals first and then comes writing. I love making random stories up or writing poetry to express feelings. I have a lot of goals in life like finishing college, and opening my own vet clinic and animal shelter. I also want to get one of my stories published. I can get very passionate about things like the government and my beliefs. I like debating, and just sharing what I know. Out of all the subjects in school I’d say History is my favorite, it may be the past but it’s what shaped the world and changed a lot of things.”
