New Phases

By Katie Dodd

New phases in life are always scary, driving a car for the first time or my new phase starting college. Being homeschooled my whole life never having a day inside a public school, it’s going to be a major scenery change. I’ve been blessed immensely, I have a horse I always dreamed of and even a mule who I adore. I have a good life, and I can’t say there’s anything I regret about it. Of course I’ve done things I regret, but I don’t regret my life or who I am. I’m thankful towards my parents; they’ve done everything they can to make my life as easy as any child could want, and I’m proud they’re my parents. Starting college will be a new step for me and it’s going to be terrifying. I’m glad my parents will be with me every step of the way so I’m not going into it alone.

I’m even starting an internship at a vets office, another thing I’ve always wanted. I’m just always so impatient. I almost feel swamped with all these new changes. I’m still learning to drive (I’m terrible), interning, college, and soon a job at the college. I honestly don’t know how people deal with so many things at once. I think I prefer school when all I did was color and sing my ABC’s.

As terrified as I am, I’m excited! I wouldn’t want to be stuck in one season of my life forever. I like to move on and experience new things.

Everybody has new seasons in their life, whether it’s starting a job, entering high school, or something bigger. You shouldn’t hide from new experiences, enjoy it. Of course be cautious I’m not trying to tell you to just do something because you feel like it. Just don’t live in fear of progress, of entering a new phase.

Life is meant to always move forward, not stand still.

About the Author:My name is Katie Dodd I’m 17 years old, and live in Clifton, Tennessee. My hobbies are reading, writing, walking, occasionally riding horses, and a lot of other activities. My passions are animals first and then comes writing. I love making random stories up or writing poetry to express feelings. I have a lot of goals in life like finishing college, and opening my own vet clinic and animal shelter. I also want to get one of my stories published. I can get very passionate about things like the government and my beliefs. I like debating, and just sharing what I know. Out of all the subjects in school I’d say History is my favorite, it may be the past but it’s what shaped the world and changed a lot of things.”
