The 2014 Super Bowl

The 2014 Super Bowl will be in MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This is where the New York Giants and the New York Jets play their home games. The game will be on Feb second at 6:30 on Fox. The teams that made it to the Super Bowl this year are the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos. Both of these teams have been considered the best teams all season long. During the Regular season the Seahawks had a record of 13 wins and 3 loses this helped them claim 1 in the NFC West. The Broncos also had the same record of 13 wins and 3 loses this helped them claim 1 in the AFC West. As we can see both of these teams have been neck and neck all season long and now we will get to see them both these amazing teams go head to head. Now even though I am a huge sports fan and I love watching sports. The thing that I am most excited about is the Half Time Show. This year’s Half Time Show will be performed by Bruno Mars and I am a huge fan of Bruno Mars. Having said that let’s take a quick look at how both teams made it to the Super Bowl this year.

The Seahawks got a bye in the first week of the Postseason because they were first in their division. On Sat, Jan 11 the Seahawks beat the New Orleans Saints 23-15 and on Sun, Jan 19 the Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers 23-17. The Broncos also got a bye in the first week of the Postseason because they were first in their division. One Sun, Jan 12 the Broncos beat the San Diego Chargers 24-17 and on Sun, Jan 19 the Broncos beat the New England Patriots 26-16. So to both the Seahawks and the Broncos good luck and may the best team win the 48 Super Bowl.

The 2014 Winter Olympics is in Sochi, Russia from Feb 7-23. The Opening Ceremony is on Feb 7 at 10:14 AM Mountain Standard Time (MST). This year we are sending 176 Olympians. Some of them are former Olympians and some are first time Olympians. One Olympian that will not be able to compete in this year’s Olympics is Lindsey Vonn. She opted out of the Olympics with a knee injury that wasn’t curable before the Olympics. Apollo Anton Ohno will also not be competing in this year’s Olympics. He retired after the 2010 Olympics but he will now be an announcer for speed skating and short track. Former Olympians Shaun White, Meryl Davis, Charlie White, and many others will get their chance to shine on the Olympic stage. The US competes in the following Winter Sports: Biathlon, Bobsled, Skeleton, Curling, Figure Skating, Hockey, Luge, Ski and Snowboard, and Speed skating. This year’s Olympics are going to be one to watch because we have an amazing team with both new and experienced athletes. Even if you are not able to watch it live on TV, that is okay; you can just DVR it and watch it on your own time. Just be careful because if you go online you might see who has won all the medals and who is leading in the medal standing. Good luck to the entire US team and lets go out there and do our absolute best and bring back some medals.

The 2014 Australian Open

The 2014 Australian Open was from January 13-26. This year’s Australian Open was in Melbourne, Australian. This year’s winners were Stanislas Wawrinka or Stan on the men’s side and Li Na on the women’s side. Stan has been a professional tennis since 2002 from Switzerland. Stan has six career titles. His first big achievement was a gold medal in 2008 in doubles. This year he has done his biggest achievement by winning the Australian Open. Li has been a professional tennis player since 1999 from China. Li has 18 career titles. She has won two Grand Slams. Her first one came in 2011 at the French Open and now her second at the Australian Open. Both of these players were not picked at the beginning of the tournament to win by very many people. Both players are really incredible athletes and both of them seem to be having a great start to the 2014 season.

In the first round Stan won the first set against Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan, than Andrey retired half way through the second set. In the second round he beat Alejandro Falla of Colombia in four sets in which three of the sets went to a tie-breaker. In the third round he was supposed to play Vasek Pospisil but Vasek did a walkover which is basically forfeiting the match. In the fourth round he beat Tommy Roberdo of Spain in three straight sets. In the Quarterfinals he beat Novak Djokovic of Serbia in five sets. In the Semifinals he beat Tomas Berdych of Czech in four sets; three of the four sets went to tie-breakers. In the Finals he beat one of the best tennis players to ever live Rafael Nadal of Spain in four seats. After the finals Stan had only beat Nadal in three sets out of 30 sets. So he won the three most important sets in his life. Congrats to Stan on your first Grand Slam and may there be more to come.

In the first round Li beat Ana Konjuh of Croatia in two sets. In the second round she beat Belinda Bencic of Switzerland in two sets as well. In the third round she beat Lucie Davis of Czech in three sets one of the sets went to a tie-breaker. In the fourth round she beat Ekaterina Makarova of Russia in two sets.
